Rencontres Audiovisuelles

About

Professional Panel / working group (Group 5) held within the IBSIC (Image Beyond the Screen) International Meeting at the Arenberg Creative Mine, Wallers-Arenberg. Eight participants (3 new media artists, 4 festivals/productions, 1 local authority) addressed intellectual property and copyright in the creative use of generative AI and its environmental impact. On copyright: the input/output distinction, opt-out and presumption of refusal for training datasets (referencing the French Senate law of 8 April 2026 shifting the burden of proof to platforms), and the principle that AI-generated content without significant human intervention is not protected because originality requires the imprint of a natural person. On environmental impact: generative AI's rebound effects, individual footprint simulators (ADEME, INR), device manufacturing as the largest impact, and offsetting AI use by reducing other digital activities. Discussion with artist Amine Rachad: AI is a tool whose legitimacy depends on the user's creative contribution.
