Sustainability in Digital Arts & Video Mapping

Rencontres Audiovisuelles

About

Professional Panel / working group held within the IBSIC (Image Beyond the Screen) International Meeting at the Arenberg Creative Mine, Wallers-Arenberg. Nine participants (festival directors, project managers, artists, technical and sales professionals) discussed sustainability in the digital arts and video mapping field. Main topics: materials and production / upcycling, technical aspects (projectors, festivals as laboratories), awareness-raising and education (social as well as ecological sustainability), and embedding sustainable thinking into artistic work. Challenges identified: temporary festival setups and waste, lack of consistent guidelines, limited green funding, mobility and transport, energy-efficient equipment vs image quality, and greenwashing risk. Proposed solutions: compact reusable setups, collaborations and artwork tourings, renewable energy, upcycling/repurposing of materials, sharing best practices, supporting low-tech artists, monitoring server energy, and audience/staff awareness and training.
