Scientific text

Island Trapped Waves (ITWs) around Lastovo are a focal point of biological regeneration in the Adriatic. The phenomenon occurs in only a few island locations in the world (Hawaii, Bermuda, Gotland, Lastovo.) The favorable geographical position of the island of Lastovo in relation to the Adriatic sea currents creates a specific micro-situation in which the production of marine bioorganisms increases significantly, thereby contributing to the much-needed regeneration of nature in times of ecological crisis. The phenomenon was discovered and investigated by a team of scientists from the Zagreb Faculty of Science, led by Dr. Zrinka Ljubešić.
