About
River is an immersive multimedia installation that transforms the viewer into an active participant in dialogue with nature. Slowed-down projections on suspended silicone screens reconstruct the fragility and temporality of the Someșul Mic riverbank, inviting contemplation. The slow soundscape creates a dilated perception of time, aligned with the rhythm of nature. The work becomes both an artistic act and a critical ecological discourse on local biodiversity.
Concept
The artistic project's third component is framed within the discourse of contemporary art through an immersive multimedia installation that transforms the spectator's experience into an act of co-creating meaning in relation to the natural environment. This intervention configures a discursive space where visual and auditory perception are no longer passive tools, but become instruments for exploring and empathising with the world of local creatures, 'transmitted' through technology as a dialogic flow between the spectator and the ecosystem. The installation thus becomes a field of discourse that proposes a reconstitution of a riverbank, through a suspended diagram – made of silicone screens and undulating metal structures – serving as a support for slowed projections recorded directly in the natural environment. The slowed-down films, recorded both on-site and underwater, function as a visual ritual, inviting contemplation on the fragility and transience of natural phenomena. The sound component, characterised by a slow and profound rhythm, becomes an integral part of the discourse, evoking a different perception of time and meaning – a time that seems to expand and adapt to the rhythm of nature. In this sense, the installation becomes an act of critical discourse on local biodiversity, emphasising both the autonomy and fragility of the area's ecology, as well as the need to reflect on the danger of its dissolution under contemporary pressures. Thus, the work is not only an artistic act, but also a form of intervention in the ecological discourse, a space of awareness raising via aesthetic means to the ephemerality of nature, reflecting on the temporal dimension and fragility of the environment through a visual and sonic narrative that invites both contemplation and awareness. Technical description: The installation consists of four pillars, each 3 metres high, with two projectors and two screens made of suspended silicone strips mounted above them, supported by undulating metal plates that mimic the line of the Someșul Mic River bank near Bánffy Castle in Bonțida. Dimensions: height 3 m, width 4 m; the silicone projection screens measure 2.5 × 4 m. The exhibition is part of the CO-VISION project, which explores the relationship between humans and nature, with a particular focus on the local significance of the Someșul Mic River. Co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.

Space
• River installation requires a space of 4 x 2 m. Four/eight 1.5 m 3-point standard stage pillars (2 base pillars each). Installation height 3 m, width 4 m
• silicone projection screens 2.5 × 4 m. Undulating metal plates made of 80x5 mm steel bands, 1.6–1.7 m length, 2 per side, with a 3 mm steel-cable rigidization system. Silicone strips mounted permanently, remaining on the metal plates during transport/storage. Transport requires 2x1x0.6 m space, all parts fit in 1.7–1.8 m length
• silicone strips folded gently into 0.8–1 m avoiding edges

04.11.2024 — Transylvania Trust Foundation
This local debate took place across two locations: the first and last day in Cluj-Napoca (House of Religious Freedom) and the second day at Bánffy Castle in Bonțida, with a follow-up narrative-collection session on 21 March 2025 (Cultural Café of Bánffy Castle, Bonțida). It offered a comprehensive blend of theoretical input, site-specific exploration and hands-on co-creation. It began with lectures on biodiversity and the ecological value of the Someșul Mic River Valley, followed by fieldwork, creative workshops (frottage, stop-motion animation, mixed-media) and collective artistic experimentation using natural and built heritage elements. The presence of local policymakers and heritage experts strengthened the dialogue between civic, cultural and scientific sectors, exemplifying CO-VISION’s principles of community engagement, site-based inspiration and interdisciplinary creation, and feeding the artwork 'Roots and Routes'. Participants: 45 (November 2024) and 42 (March 2025), mostly university students and young professionals from visual arts, architecture, biology and psychology backgrounds.

14.11.2025 — Transylvania Trust Foundation
Held 14–15 November 2025 at Bánffy Castle in Bonțida and Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca, the second Local Debate gathered 44 participants — young people, university students, civil-society representatives and citizens. Led by visual artist Dr. Mira Marincaș, it combined field exploration and analogue experiments, lumen-print and 'Inner Silence' workshops, and digital completion sessions, advancing the 'Roots and Routes' immersive installation on the Someșul Mic River landscape toward completion.
